Following the recent visit and pastoral engagement led by the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, to Uganda, specifically to the Palabek refugee camp from Sunday, May 5 to Tuesday, May 7, 2024, it is noteworthy to recognize the profound significance of this journey. This visit, strategically timed as one of the final international endeavors of Cardinal Á.F. Artime’s tenure as Rector Major, conveyed a poignant message of solidarity and support to the refugee community.
Subsequently, Cardinal Á.F. Artime proceeded with his itinerary to various other Salesian missions across Africa, with his current location being the Democratic Republic of the Congo since May 8, 2024. Of particular importance is the forthcoming diaconate ordination ceremony scheduled for Sunday, May 12, at the Imara work in Lubumbashi. This ceremony marks a significant milestone as it will be the inaugural occasion where Cardinal Á.F. Artime, recently ordained as bishop on April 20, will administer the sacrament of Holy Orders. Through the solemn act of his consecratory prayer and the laying on of hands, he will impart the sacred responsibilities of the diaconate upon twelve Salesians hailing from diverse circumscriptions across Africa, exemplifying the continuity of pastoral leadership within the Salesian community.
